This is not another mask or no-mask debate. Wearing a mask is such a personal decision and right now there are so many strange things and unknowns about Covid-19 that there is a lot of debate on both sides but I have some tips if you are going to a wedding that I beg of you to think about for the friends and family you are celebrating.
If you are wearing a mask properly over your nose and mouth, fantastic. If you choose not to wear a mask fantastic. But please do not wear your mask on your chin or hanging from your ear. A mask covering just your chin or hanging from your ear does absolutely nothing to protect you. Whether or not a mask works to protect against Covid while wearing it, who really knows with certainty but I am 100% certain that wearing a mask on your chin or hanging off one ear offers zero protection. If you choose to take your mask down for a period of time please remove it completely from your neck and face until you are ready to cover again. The exception to this would be gaiters around the neck, I don't mind that but bright blue hospital masks hanging from your ear like an oversized earring and colorful patterns on your chin where a beard would be is especially distracting in photos, even in the background.
Secondly, if the venue has mask restrictions in certain areas, please adhere to them the best you can. These venues want to stay open and again whether or not your personal beliefs are that masks work or don't, venues have to adhere to certain guidelines and enforce rules if they want to stay open. Weddings can get shut down early for non-compliance. Please don't be the person that got the party cut short for not wearing your mask in areas where it is enforced.
Lastly, please social distance from the photographer and other vendors. We are trying our hardest to do what we need to do to stay healthy and working. While Coronavirus may not be deadly as once thought it does have the potential to take us out of work for week(s) leaving other couples potentially without vendors last minute. If you hire professionals let them do the job, put your phones away and relax and they will get the images, keep peoples and kids attention and not miss a beat if they aren't worried about someone breathing over them with a cell phone.
