Sometimes babies can't get in to see me right away.  This couple lived several hours away and traveled up to visit family and have newborn photos taken when their daughter was approaching the six week mark.  I often get asked what age I will take newborns up to, my first answer is any age but for the squishy newborn pose portraits it really depends on the baby.  Babies tend to startle easier past the three week mark, they lose some of their flexibility as a newborn and in some cases have more tummy troubles than under three weeks which causes them to be uncomfortable when they aren't being held.  I will accept babies of any age but parents must be realistic of their expectations of the session and I must say, the "older" newborns give me some of the most beautiful smiles and expressions I wouldn't be able to capture at just two weeks old so there are pros and cons to every age of newborn photography.

Loved having this sweet Berlin family come in to see me.  I photographed the little princess on the end almost two years ago for her newborn photos and now she is in with a new little brother.  Loved his blonde locks and he was the dreamiest sleeping baby you could imagine.

 Loved meeting this little darling.  At 5 weeks old she was one of my more seasoned newborns to date.  She slept like a dream and was so snuggly.  I loved that we were able to pull off all of Mom and Dad's prop requests with this little gal even at 5 weeks.  The proof is here, newborn photos can be done past two weeks!  I will accept newborns up to six weeks but to really get the squishy, cuddly newborn poses and have a better chance at a sleepy baby, I do recommend the first three weeks for a newborn session.

This little guy is such a miracle!  This sweet baby was born 11 weeks premature and made it home just 5 weeks after birth.  His birth weight was less than 2 lbs and he is now thriving!  Coming in at about 4.5 lbs at 6 weeks old, he was a great little sleeper for me.  Many many prayers were lifted for this sweet baby boy to make it home before Christmas and he ended up coming home before Thanksgiving!  What a holiday miracle!  This sweet guy will have surgery at less than a year to correct his cleft palette and outside of that and a hernia in his abdomen he is healthy as any newborn baby.

What a perfect little newborn baby boy!  Grandmom tells me the baby comes from a family of firefighters and it was a pleasure and an honor to photograph this little guy donning Daddy's work clothes.  He curled right into the fireman's hat and slept - a composite photo of course for safety.  He slept so well through most of the session and was such a precious little bundle.  My string of smiley babies sure continued with this little guy - he gave me quite a few smirks and smiles with his little lips during his session always just before he dozed back off.

One of the smiliest babies I have had to date!  He smiles so many times throughout his session and slept so well for me to take his photographs.  What a sweet little guy!  Momma is a redskins fan so we tied a little football into his newborn photos.
